DevPos ERP: Transforming Business Operations
In March 2025, I developed DevPos, an enterprise-grade ERP system that integrates Point of Sale, B2B sales management, and advanced reporting into a unified platform. This case study explores how we built a system that streamlines operations for businesses of all sizes.
The Problem
Modern businesses struggle with fragmented systems:
- Disconnected Tools: Separate systems for POS, inventory, and reporting
- Data Silos: Information trapped in different platforms
- Manual Processes: Time-consuming reconciliation between systems
- Limited Insights: Difficulty getting real-time business analytics
- Scaling Challenges: Systems that can't grow with the business
We needed a solution that brings everything together while remaining fast, reliable, and easy to use.

System Architecture
DevPos is built on a modular architecture with three core modules:
1. Point of Sale (POS) Module
2. B2B Sales Management
3. Advanced Reporting & Analytics
Feature Breakdown
1. Point of Sale System
The POS module handles all retail transactions with enterprise-grade reliability.
Core Features:
Inventory Management
interface Product {
id: string;
name: string;
sku: string;
quantity: number;
reorderLevel: number;
price: number;
variants?: ProductVariant[];
}
const trackInventory = (sale: Sale) => {
sale.items.forEach(item => {
updateStock(item.productId, -item.quantity);
if (isLowStock(item.productId)) {
triggerReorderAlert(item.productId);
}
});
};
Payment Processing
- Multiple payment methods (cash, card, digital wallets)
- Split payments support
- Automatic receipt generation
- Refund and exchange handling
Real-Time Stock Updates
const useRealTimeStock = (productId: string) => {
const [stock, setStock] = useState(0);
useEffect(() => {
// WebSocket connection for real-time updates
const socket = connectToStockService();
socket.on(`stock:${productId}`, (newStock) => {
setStock(newStock);
checkReorderThreshold(newStock);
});
return () => socket.disconnect();
}, [productId]);
return stock;
};
POS Dashboard
Built an intuitive dashboard showing:
- Today's sales summary
- Active transactions
- Low stock alerts
- Top-selling products
- Cashier performance
2. B2B Sales Management
Designed specifically for wholesale and bulk order management.
Key Features:
Bulk Order Processing
interface BulkOrder {
orderId: string;
clientId: string;
items: OrderItem[];
pricing: PricingTier;
paymentTerms: PaymentTerms;
deliverySchedule: DeliverySchedule;
}
const processBulkOrder = async (order: BulkOrder) => {
// Apply client-specific pricing
const pricedOrder = applyClientPricing(order);
// Reserve inventory

Technical Implementation
State Management
Used Redux Toolkit for complex state management:
// Store structure
interface RootState {
pos: POSState;
inventory: InventoryState;
orders: OrdersState;
clients: ClientsState;
reports: ReportsState;
}
// Real-time sync with backend
const syncMiddleware = (store) => (next) => (action) => {
const result = next(action);
if (shouldSync(action)) {
syncToBackend(action);
}
return result;
};
Performance Optimization
Implemented several optimization strategies:
1. Virtual Scrolling for Large Lists
import { FixedSizeList } from 'react-window';
const ProductList = ({ products }) => (
<FixedSizeList
height={600}
itemCount={products.length}
itemSize={80}
width="100%"
>
{({ index, style }) => (
<ProductRow
product={products[index]}
style={style}
/>
)}
</FixedSizeList>
);
2. Data Caching with React Query
const useProductData = (productId: string) => {
return useQuery({
queryKey: ['product', productId],
queryFn: () => fetchProduct(productId),
staleTime: 5 * 60 * 1000, // 5 minutes
cacheTime: 10 * 60 * 1000 // 10 minutes
});
};
3. Code Splitting
// Lazy load heavy modules
const ReportsModule = lazy(() => import('./Reports'));
const InventoryModule = lazy(() => import('./Inventory'));
const B2BModule = lazy(() => import('./B2B'));
Real-Time Updates
Implemented WebSocket connections for live data:
class RealtimeService {
private socket: WebSocket;
subscribeToInventory(callback: (update: StockUpdate) => void) {
this.socket.on('inventory:update', callback);
}
subscribeToSales(callback: (sale: Sale) => void) {
this.socket.on('sale:completed', callback);
}
}
User Interface Design
Design Principles
- Speed First: Every action completes in < 1 second
- Mobile Responsive: Works on tablets for mobile POS
- Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 AA compliant
- Dark Mode: Reduces eye strain during long shifts
Key UI Components
Dashboard Cards
const DashboardCard = ({ title, value, trend, icon }) => (
<Card>
<CardContent>
<Typography variant="h6">{title}</Typography>
<Typography variant="h3">{value}</Typography>
<Trend direction={trend.direction} value={trend.value} />
</CardContent>
</Card>
);
Data Tables with Actions
- Sortable columns
- Inline editing
- Bulk actions
- Export functionality
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1: Concurrent Transactions
Problem: Multiple cashiers processing sales simultaneously.
Solution: Implemented optimistic locking:
const processSale = async (sale: Sale) => {
const version = await getStockVersion(sale.items);
try {
await updateStock(sale.items, version);
} catch (VersionMismatchError) {
// Refresh and retry
return processSale(sale);
}
};
Challenge 2: Offline Capability
Problem: Internet outages shouldn't stop sales.
Solution: Built offline-first with service workers:
// Cache sales locally
const queueOfflineSale = (sale: Sale) => {
const db = openIndexedDB();
db.add('pending_sales', sale);
// Sync when online
window.addEventListener('online', syncPendingSales);
};
Challenge 3: Complex Pricing Rules
Problem: Different pricing for different client tiers.
Solution: Rule engine with precedence:
interface PricingRule {
priority: number;
condition: (client: Client, product: Product) => boolean;
calculate: (basePrice: number) => number;
}
const calculatePrice = (product: Product, client: Client) => {
const rules = getPricingRules()
.filter(rule => rule.condition(client, product))
.sort((a, b) => b.priority - a.priority);
return rules[0]?.calculate(product.price) ?? product.price;
};

Conclusion
DevPos demonstrates that enterprise ERPs can be both powerful and user-friendly. By focusing on core business needs and building with modern technologies, we created a system that scales from small retailers to large wholesalers.
The key to success was understanding business workflows deeply and translating them into intuitive software that reduces friction rather than adding complexity.
Key Takeaway: Great ERP systems are built by deeply understanding business processes first, then applying technology to streamline themβnot the other way around.
